.....I know this subject has been covered recently but I cant find the thread to continue it so here I am

As per last thread explaining how to get rid of the "deadly blind spot" (1996 VW Sharan TDI)..I did as suggested and removed both wipers so that the drivers side was uppermost and left the suggested 15-20mm gap between the passenger one to avoid a "mid screen collision"..........but no matter how many different configorations I tried ,the passenger on always caught the drivers or one of them went off screen.

Question is .....Am I doing something wrong ???? The set up on my "facelift"Sharan is different with the drivers side uppermost.

Hah! If you think you've got problems.....

Had to make a trip in the company 1996 Astra estate last week, in the rain. The driver's side wiper stopped about 6 inches (I'm not joking) from the driver's side screen pillar. Huge blindspot, worse than my Galaxy.

The length of the wiper blade left and right are different and the offset of the blade arms is also different depending on which is originaly intended to be the leading wiper.

On my 99 Gal the driver side arm leads the passenger and has a shorter blade.

I f your are changing the leading wiper you will need to change the arms as that is the control oevr the position on the screen if you dont and you just try ot time the arm position by the spline of the shaft the offset of the arm will cause them to clash about 11 inches into their travel.

You can adjust the sweep position but you must move both driver and passenger arms round the spline by the same angle but you will find the park position will make close parking and close objects impossible to see as the blades will park about three inches up the screen from the visible point.

My advice if you have a passenger leading set buy new arms that will alow driver side lead then the blind spot can easily adjusted to a minimum.

The only difference is the size of the gap left by the curved blade aginst the side of the windscreen, I have had both type of blades fitted and cant say that I really noticed any difference in performance of either of them! and to be honest I dont have a problem with the alledged blind spot caused by the wipers :(

On the 2000+ models, the arm sweep can be adjusted by loosening the retaining bolt on either arm, thus adjusting the overall sweep and resting position of both wipers. This is easily done and I've found that by adjusting the bolt for the drivers side arm I can almost completely eliminate the blind spot. The wiper rests slightly higher, but still at the bottom of the screen out of the way.
